Pneumococcal Meningitis : 11 dead in two weeks

At least one person has died of a new case of Pneumococcal Meningitis in the Ashanti region.

This brings to eleven the total number of people who have died of the dangerous disease over the last two weeks. Nine out of the 11 cases were recorded in the Brong Ahafo region.

Currently, there are fears in the Northern region as health officials are heading there to curb a potential outbreak of meningitis and Yellow fever in the area.

Reports say health officials in the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions have intensified their campaigns to contain the situation.

The Health ministry has reportedly put the various health institutions and officials in the respective areas on an alert to enable them detect the disease in time.
