PNDC Tops Human Rights Violations

Out of a total 2,245 cases of human rights violations received by the National Reconciliation Commission so far, the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) era registered 1,494. The Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) regime recorded 345, followed by the CPP –137; NDC- 133; NLC – 112; SMC – 96; NRC – 76 and PNP – 32 accordingly.

The figures suggest that more atrocities and human rights violations were committed during the PNDC era.

According to Mohammed Affum, Public Affairs Officer of NRC, over 3,800 petitions have been recorded by the commission of which 2,371 have been analysed. Out of the figure analysed, there were 807 detentions, 723 seizures of properties 486 ill treatments. The statistics also revealed that there were 452 tortures, 250 dismissals, 150 killings, 48 disappearances and 39 abductions.
