The People’s National Convention (PNC) has filed a suit against the Electoral Commission (EC) following the disqualification of its presidential candidate, Dr Edward Mahama.
The EC disqualified 13 presidential aspirants from contesting the 2016 December polls earlier this month and so far, the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), the All People’s Congress (APC), and the National Democratic Party (NDP) have taken the EC to court over their disqualification, seeking to have their candidates reinstated on the ballot paper.
Speaking to Class News, PNC National Chairman Bernard Mornah said the EC had already been served with a writ of summons pending hearing on Tuesday November 1.
“Dr Mahama has been unjustly disqualified. We think that the EC has not fulfilled the requirement to disqualify Dr Edward Mahama. We are urging the court to compel the EC to reinstate Dr Edward Mahama so he can appear on the ballot paper and become an option for president in Ghana. We are going to court on Tuesday, we have filed, we have served the Electoral Commission, and so on Tuesday we shall be in court to make a determination,” he stated.
