PNC, NDC CPP against engaging teachers for registration exercise

Nkawie (Ash), Feb. 27, GNA – Three political parties in the Atwima-Nwabiagya constituency have advised the Electoral Commission (EC) against the engagement of teachers for the voters registration exercise. The parties asked the EC to instead engage senior secondary school leavers for the exercise and explained that the involvement of teachers in such programmes disrupted classes of students, especially those in their final year.

Representatives of the People National Convention (PNC), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Convention People’s Party (CPP) gave the suggestion at the constituency Inter-Party Advisory Committee meeting at Nkawie on Wednesday.

Mr Francis Osei Nsiah, the Atwima District Electoral Officer said the commission would train voter educators to educate the people on the importance of the registration exercise.

Mr Nsiah announced that additional five polling stations had been created at Atwima-Mponua to bring the number to 149 while seven more had been created at Atwima-Nwabiagya to bring the total number to 117. He reiterated that the objective of the registration exercise was to have a reliable and credible voters register.

Mr Nsiah said to eliminate impersonation and multiple registrations, the EC would put photographs of eligible voters on voter identification cards (ID) and on the voters register.
