PNC Mourns Uncle Dan Lartey

Press release on Death of Comrade Dan Lartey

Oh what a world? Dan Lartey is Gone!

We in the People’s National Convention (PNC) are shocked to learn of the demise of Comrade Dan Augustus Lartey in the early hours of Monday December 28, 2009. Comrade has in his life has contributed enormously not only for his Family and himself but to the economic and democratic dispensation of the country he so love. His concept of ‘DOMESTICATION’ has added to economic nomenclature and indeed had become a household word. Many and for that matter all those who believe that the way of our economic salvation rested on the shoulders of our own resources, see his domestication idea as a policy well grounded. This concept was to ensure that Ghanaians patronised made-in-Ghana produce. The Ghanaian business should be provided the needed impetus to grow. This way, we will provide opportunity for employment thus increase levels of income and become food sufficient thereby reducing the huge import bill of our nation.

Surely, the contribution of Uncle Dan (as was affectionately called) has been legendary and exemplary. In politics, he added colour to our Multiparty Democratic experiment. In 2000, he acted in concert with other citizens to foster political change. He stood firm in his opposition to policies and acts that were inimical to our national cohesion by joining with other political leaders to oppose:

1. The setting up a procurement authority for the Electoral Commission

2. The passage of the Representation of the People’s Amendment Act (ROPAA) In 2008, Uncle Dan and his party the Great Consolidated Popular Party again when elections entered a runoff, took a brave decision by opting for ‘Change’. In effect, this man moved with the times.

The PNC, send our sympathies to the Lartey Family, the GCPP in the hope that they would be fortified to take on from where Uncle Dan left. We are convinced that the greatest tribute for Dan Lartey will be a continuation of the things he stood for.

For his contribution to our nation, it is our hope that Government will accord this statesman the honours he deserve. Uncle Dan, Damirifa! Damirifa Due! Due!
