Wa, Feb. 29, GNA – The People’s National Convention (PNC) says it would offer grants, scholarship and loan opportunities for students to pursue higher education if Ghanaians gave it their mandate in the 2008 polls.
Such a scheme would enable students to educate themselves to higher levels and provide the manpower requirement of the country. Dr. Edward Mahama, Presidential candidate of the PNC, said several students from poor families would not be able to achieve their educational aspirations due to the cost involved and gave the assurance that the PNC would address the challenges if voted to office. He said a PNC administration would also reduce the size of government, preferably would have to do with between 30 and 40 ministers and put the monies that would have been spent on them into priority areas of development.
Dr. Mahama was interacting with media personnel at Wa on Wednesday after a campaign tour of the Upper West Region. He promised Ghanaians a leadership with integrity and service with honesty, a real change and a positive hope aimed to reduce corruption and poverty that had plagued the people. He urged the government to work on the road that linked Northern Region to Volta Region to facilitate the transportation of yam from the north to the south On the insecurity situation of the country, he said the Police Service was understaffed, ill equipped and poorly paid and urged government to do more to stem the situation. 29 Feb 08
