PM donates water reservoir to Takoradi Hospital

Takoradi Nov.17, GNA-An appeal for funds in aid of the rehabilitation of the Takoradi Hospital launched in August this year has so far yielded less than 10 million cedis.

Dr Kofi Sabeng, the Medical Director of the Hospital announced this when receiving a 7500 litre capacity polytank valued at seven million cedis from Mr Edwin Philips, the Presiding Member of the Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) as his personal donation to the hospital in Takoradi on Wednesday.

He said the poor response to the appeal dubbed: “Save the Takoradi Hospital Fund” could jeopardise rehabilitation of the hospital. Dr. Sabeng said the hospital must be kept in good physical and environmental condition if it is to deliver quality health care and services, especially as the National Health Insurance Scheme is to take off soon in the area.

He said the renovation of the female ward of the hospital has begun after a period of abandonment and that it requires money to complete it. Dr Sabeng appealed to individuals and organisations to assist the hospital to deliver an efficient 24 hours service by donating cash or kind.

Dr. Sabeng said the water tank has been donated at an opportune time because it will help salvage acute shortage of water at the hospital, especially at the theatres in times of surgical emergencies.

He announced that a Ghanaian couple in Italy have donated 20 hospital beds to the hospital.

Making the donation, Mr Philips said he was assisted by his Dutch friend to purchase the water tank. He said the friend has also promised to help procure computers for the hospital and to pay for the fittings for the tank.
