Wydad Casablanca assistant coach Ibrahim Nakkach has praised Asante Kotoko’s resilience and admitted the Moroccan side had to work hard for their narrow 1-0 victory in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.
“It was a tough game against a strong Kotoko side,” Nakkach said after the match. “Playing Kotoko was tough; we’ll prepare well and wait for them in the 2nd leg.”
Wydad struck early in the second half to take the advantage, but Kotoko, who were reduced to 10 men following a goalkeeping incident, continued to fight until the end. Despite their numerical disadvantage, the Porcupine Warriors kept the scoreline respectable and remain hopeful of overturning the deficit in Casablanca.
Nakkach acknowledged that the job is far from finished and insisted Wydad will approach the return leg with focus and respect for their opponents.
The second leg in Morocco promises to be an intense showdown, with Kotoko needing a win to keep their continental dreams alive, while Wydad aim to capitalise on their slim first-leg lead and secure progression.
