Gremio forward Francis Amuzu has revealed that his decision to represent Ghana was made years ago, inspired in part by fellow Ghanaian footballer Majeed Ashimeru.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, the Belgian-born winger said his love for Ghana deepened after visiting the country with Ashimeru a few years ago.
“I declared my intention to play for Ghana like three or four years ago. Majeed was a big influence. I went back to Ghana with him, and we really enjoyed the experience,” Amuzu said.
He added that wearing the national colours would be the fulfilment of a long-held ambition. “I was like, yeah, I love Ghana. If I get a call-up for Ghana, whether before or after the World Cup, that would be great. I’ll be happy. It’s a dream for me to play for the national team of Ghana.”
Amuzu, who currently plays for Brazilian side Gremio, recently confirmed his nationality switch from Belgium to Ghana. His decision comes at a time when several dual nationals have expressed interest in representing the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
