Platform for Coastal Communities in W/R formed

Fijai (W/R), March 8, GNA – A platform for the development and protection of coastal communities in Western Region, has been formed to compliment government’s effort. This was formed at a meeting at Fijai, near Takoradi on Tuesday, which named Awulae Annor Adjaye III (Omanhene of Western Nzema Traditional Area) the Interim Chairman of the Platform.

Awulae Adjaye III said the platform is a non-political and would not use violence to address environmental problems along the coast. “The platform would not involve itself in partisan politics nor serv= e the interest of any political party”, he said. Awulae Adjaye said the vision of the platform is to promote environmental consciousness among coastal communities to accelerate development.

He said the work of the platform would cover the Western and Eastern, Upper and Lower Axim Traditional areas as well as the Upper and Lower Dixcove and Nsein Traditional areas. Other areas, he said, are the Busua, Sekondi, Essikadu and Shama Traditional areas. 8 March 11
