Pig breeders fined for operating without permit

Tema (G/A), Sept. 13, GNA- The District Court at Tema on Thursday fined 14 pig breeders 450,000 cedis each for rearing pigs without permit.

They will each go to prison for one month if they fail to pay the fine.

Mr Emmanuel Eric Kotoku of the Tema Municipal Assembly, told the court that following persistence public complaints against stray pigs within the community, three months notice was served on the owners to remove the animals or face prosecutions.

He said the TMA Task Force conducted re-inspection after the notice and found that the accused persons failed to comply with the order. The court in another development issued a bench warrant for the arrest of 16 other pig breeders who failed to appear before the court.
