“Pick-up” robbers are on Ashanti Police Command’s wanted list

Kumasi, April 2, GNA – A gang numbering between two and four and are wielding pump action guns have been snatching new pick-up vehicles from people in the Kumasi metropolis. The criminal group has so far snatched nine vehicles. Assistant Commissioner of Police Bright Oduro, the Crime Officer, told newsmen on Wednesday that members of the gang take cover around the entrances of their victims’ houses and pounce on them immediately they show up and seize their vehicles. Felix Batiehi Chaaba, Koney Tettey Issaka, Obiri Yeboah Ahiman, Joseph Hannah, Christian Addo, Kusi Brempong, Nicholas Yaw Sarpong, Appiah Hene Gyamfi Oswel have had their vehicles taken away from them. Another belonging to the Zoomlion Ghana Limited driven by Stephen G. Darko was snatched in the night in May 2006. Mr Oduro said none of the vehicles had been retrieved, neither had any of the robbers been arrested, adding that police investigation had found out that the vehicles were sent out of Ghana to either Nigeria or Cote D’Ivore to be sold.

The Command has therefore appealed to the public to volunteer information for their arrest for a reward.
