Piase citizens abroad support education

Piase (Ash), July 20, GNA – Citizens of Piase in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District resident abroad have made available 75 million cedis towards the development of education in the community. Sixty-five million cedis of the amount would be used to support the construction of a new block of classrooms for the local Primary School while the remaining 10 million cedis would go to assist brilliant but needy pupils and students.

Mr Karikari Frimpong, President of the Piase Youngsters Association, made this known at an Open Day held by schools in the community.

He was unhappy with what he said was the lukewarm attitude on the part of many parents in the area towards the education of their children.

This, he noted, had resulted in a situation where most school children spent greater part of their leisure time watching television and video films.

Mrs Dora Doris Amaniampong, District Education Director, praised teachers in the community for their dedication to duty and hard work. She called on the community to give them the necessary encouragement and support to enable them to raise the academic performance of the school children.

Mr Michael Appiagyei, the headteacher, expressed the school’s gratitude to the Association for its assistance.

He appealed to the District Assembly to help renovate the primary school block, which was in a bad shape.
