Physically challenged worried about infringement of Disability Law

Ho, Aug 27, GNA – Physically challenged persons, at a workshop, in Ho, have drawn the government’s attention to the fact that public buildings under construction have not been designed in compliance with the Disability Law.

They complained these buildings though started after the passage of the Law were not friendly to the physically challenged.

Mr Japhet Buamah, an Officer at the Ho Municipal Education Office, described the situation as “worrying” because no one knows when he or she would become physically disabled and would not be able to access a public facility.

Madam Lena Alai, Volta Regional Director of the Department of Women, urged women living with disabilities to contest the impending district level elections to get involved in the decision making process.

She said this would enable them to have a much stronger influence on decisions that reflect their interests.

Madam Vivian Nartey, the Volta Regional Women’s Wing Coordinator of the Ghana Blind Union, advised people living with disabilities to be industrious so to win the respect of the public.
