Physically challenged persons receive financial assistance

The Ho Municipal Assembly on Thursday paid a total amount of GH?35,490.00 to 118 physically challenged persons under the Disability Fund.

Out of the 118 beneficiaries, 94 of them need the money for income generating activities, 18 for education and six for health.

Some of the beneficiaries received between GH?400.00 and 800.00 each depending on the needs assessment.

Mr. Edward Gidiglo, the Ho Municipal Co-ordinating Director said the support was meant to ease their financial difficulties, not to solve them.

He advised the beneficiaries who were going to invest the money to do so wisely so as to improve their material conditions.

Madam Salomey Deti, Chairperson of the Assembly’s Disability Fund Committee, said the support was open to all physically challenged persons on application.

She explained that the support was from the State and not any non-governmental organization.

Madam Deti said the beneficiaries were selected based on first–come-first-serve application.

She explained that in the future, the Disability Fund Committee would require the endorsement of the Ghana Education Service (GES) before approval is given for educational purposes.

Mr. Alex Akpo, representative of physically challenged persons on the Committee, said it would cross-check to ensure that pupils and students on whose behalf the money was given were in school.**
