Photo exhibition on Asantehene opens in Kumasi

Kumasi, May 5, GNA- A ten-day photo exhibition on the five-year reign of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, opened at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi on Tuesday.

The exhibition focuses on the achievements and successes of the Asantehene in the areas of chieftaincy disputes resolution, education, health, fight against HIV/AIDS, international activities as well as his efforts to promote partnership between traditional leadership and the World Bank.

The exhibition, which was opened by the Asantehe Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was also organised by Yankah and Associates, media consultants to the Manhyia Palace and the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana with support from the Ghana Telecom and First Atlantic Bank. In an address, Professor Takyiwa Manu, Director of the Institute of African Studies, traced the history of the long and fruitful relationship between the institute and the Manhyia palace which had led to the research and documentation of the Asante Kingdom, funerals and installations of Asante Kings as well as the management of the Manhyia palace archives.

She said Otumfuo had demonstrated unique leadership skills, which had transformed the chieftaincy institution in the country.

Professor Manu said efforts were being made to equip the Manhyia archives with modern equipment to ensure efficient management of the place.

Mr Kojo Yankah, Chief Executive Officer of Yankah and Associates, said the exhibition was to enhance the chieftaincy institution and the vision of the Asantehene.

He said it would also help educate and inform the public on the activities and work of Asantehene as a leader with exceptional qualities.
