Tamale, March 6, GNA – Ahaji Adam Yakubu Imoro Ayaana, a Tamale-based philanthropist and an international peace walker on Independence Day organized a 16 kilometer Peace and Health Walk in Tamale on the need for the people to ensure peace in the area. The Walk was also to commemorate Ghana’s 52nd Independence Anniversary celebrations and to help instill in Ghanaians the habit of patriotism to make them tolerate each other’s views to ensure lasting peace in the country.
Alhaji Ayaana who was a victim of the recent clashes in Tamale with his property worth thousands of Ghana cedis getting burnt, later presented a peace message to Mr Stephen S. Nayina, Northern Regional Minister at the Jubilee Park after the 16 kilometer Walk. He used the occasion to congratulate the Minister on his appointment to the Region noting that peace was an essential commodity, which must be safeguarded to promote unity and national development.
Alhaji Ayaana said it was disheartening and unfortunate that the violence welcomed the Minister into the region and appealed for peace, unity and mutual habitation among the people. He noted that in the absence of physical fitness the avenue is created to make the people to indulge in violent acts such as what was happening in the Metropolis and other areas of the North.
The Peace Walker appealed to the Regional Minister to use his experience and administrative acumen to seek lasting peace for the Region, which was an essential commodity for development. He assured the Minister of his unflinching support in helping to seek for lasting peace, which would also help to end poverty and disease to enhance the socio-economic development of the people. Alhaji Ayaana has embarked on several peace walks in Nigeria, Libya, Saudi Arabia and had also undertook a walk from Chicago to New York in 2001 after the September 11 bombing in USA.
