Philanthropist honoured

Obogu (Ash), April 7, GNA- Miss Abigail Frimpong, a 30-year-old London-based social worker, has been installed ‘Nkosuohemaa’ of Obogu Faith Primary and Junior High School in the Asante-Akim South District for her contribution towards the school’s development.

Miss Frimpong, citizen of Obogu, who did her national service at the school in the 2005/2006 academic year, has donated books, sports kits as well as school uniforms to some pupils, all valued at 1,500 Ghana cedis.

She is also currently sponsoring 80 students from the area, some of whom were in Senior High School, under the Ivon Frimpong Charity Project, which was in memory of her sister-in-law. According to Miss Frimpong, she was moved by the low standard of education in the area during her service at the school hence her efforts to help improve academic work.

She announced that land has been acquired for the construction of a community library at Obogu and called on the people to support the project.

At a durbar to install Miss Frimpong, Nana Nimo Sarkodie, Sanaahene of Obogu, lauded her for her sense of patriotism and commitment to the development of the area. He said there could not have been a better investment than promoting education since it was the bedrock of national development. Nana Sarkodie charged the beneficiaries of the donation to learn hard to enable them to achieve higher academic laurels to justify the investment being made in the development. Mr Cosmos Kuyigl, head master of the school, thanked Miss Frimpong for her assistance and urged other philanthropists and organisations to also assist the school.
