Philanthropist donates to visual-impaired

Akim Swedru, Sept. 8, GNA – A London-based Ghanaian philanthropist, Madam Love Odei-Bosompem, on Sunday donated various items worth more than 1,200 pounds to the visual-impaired in the Birim South District. The items included four bales of used clothing, shoes, provisions, detergents and plastic containers.

Speaking at a dinner for the visual-impaired in the district at Akim Swedru, Madam Odei-Bosompem said she was touched by their plight and decided to assist in improving their living condition. She expressed concern about the high custom duty on goods for charity and appealed for a review to encourage more people to donate to the needy.

Mr Yaw Ofori-Debra, National Vice-President of the Ghana Association for the Blind (GAB), expressed the Association’s appreciation for the charitable spirit of the donor.

He appealed to the government to remove or reduce duty on charitable items since the government alone cannot provide the needs of the physical-challenged.

The District President of GAB, Mr Ben Anoku, expressed the Association’s gratitude to the donor for her regular assistance and urged the well to do to emulate her.
