PEU to provide list of state buildings

The inclusion of the Presidential Estate Unit in the transition process will provide an inventory to the Transition Team of state bungalows and other buildings to ensure no state building falls into the hands of private individuals, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s Legal Committee and former Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has said.

On Sunday December 11, the team that would handle the transition of power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the NPP after the December 7 elections was inaugurated. It is made up of politicians from both parties led by former Finance Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo of the NPP and Chief of Staff Julius Debrah of the NDC.

Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Monday December 12 on the transition process, Prof Oquaye said: “The law provides that there will be handing over notes. Every minister or head of public office by this time should have written a handing over note.

“As part of the transition, the law makes room for a Presidential Estate Unit that will work hand-in-hand with the transition team.

“This Presidential Estate Unit has the list or inventory of all government bungalows and other buildings and they will help the team to know where every government bungalow and building is. Their involvement will help to prevent accusations and counter-accusations with regards to government properties in the hands of private individuals.”
