Petrol Price Hike: GH¢1.0 Levy to Kick in from June 16

Oil marketing companies (OMCs) in Ghana will begin implementing a GH¢1.0 Energy Sector Levy on petrol from June 16, 2025, following an agreement between the government and the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC).

The implementation date was revised from June 9 to June 16 after stakeholders, including the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the Ministry of Finance, engaged in constructive discussions.

COMAC has commended the government agencies involved for their collaborative efforts.

“We are pleased to announce our alignment and satisfaction with the revised implementation date for the new Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy (ESSDRL),” a statement signed by Dr. Riverson Oppong, Coordinator of COMAC, said.

The decision reflects the value of dialogue and partnership among stakeholders, COMAC added. The Chamber had earlier expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of consultations before the levy was announced.

The Energy Sector Levy, introduced under Act 1141, aims to address sector shortfalls and debt repayment. With the revised implementation date confirmed, OMCs will now begin collecting the levy from June 16, 2025.
