Peter Cardinal Turkson returns from Rome

Accra, April 27, GNA Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson, the Catholic Archbishop of Cape Coast, on Wednesday evening returned to Accra from the Vatican, Rome.

He attended the funeral service of the late Pope John Paul II as well as the election of a new Head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Benedict the XVI.

In a brief chart with journalists on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, Peter Cardinal Turkson said the new Pope had stated his desire for general understanding between the Church in Africa and other religious groups.

“We look forward to a Pope who would continue with the late Pope John Paul’s vision of growth of the Church on the continent”. Peter Cardinal Turkson was met on arrival by Monsignor Osei Agyeman, Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops Conference and Archbishop George Kocherry the Apostolic Nuncio.
