People Of Kade Want rail Services Restored

Kade (E/R), Aug. 15, – The chiefs and people of Kade are wondering if train services to the town which have been suspended since January 1992 would ever resume. This is because parts of the rail lines are being removed in spite of assurances given at the time of the suspension by the authorities that the service would be restored. Barima Gyankorang Adu Twum the second, Kadehene told the Ghana News Agency that 30 rail lines were removed on January 23, this year and a report was made to the area manager of the Ghana Railways Corporation (GRC) in Accra but nothing was heard from him. An abandoned rail truck No. 5748 was later dismantled and carted away by persons who claim they have authority from the GRC to do so. About three weeks ago, the chief said, a leyland truck with registration number GR 6893E also loaded some of the lines and carted them to Accra. Alarmed by these developments, Barima Adu Twum said on May 30 this year, he wrote to the Ministry of Roads and Transport drawing their attention to these developments. He said a reply signed by Mr T.A. Selby, a Deputy Director of the ministry said his letter had been forwarded to the railways authorities for their comment. The Kadehene said his people are anxious to know of the fate of the railway service to the town since the line very much affected their economic activities.
