The National Pensioners Association at the weekend launched a Mutual Health Scheme to cater for the health needs of its members across the country.
The scheme which is being managed by the Liberty Mutual Health is expected to cover the 550.000 registered pensioners nationwide.
Launching the scheme in Bolgatanga, the General Secretary of the National Pensioners Association, Mr Edward Ameyibor, said the new scheme would complement the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to help address the health needs of pensioners.
He said though pensioners benefit from the NHIS, it does not cover the treatment of some diseases and expressed the hope that the scheme would help fill the gap.
He said so far about 20,000 members of the Association have been registered and enrolled into the Mutual Health Scheme, whilst many members are still registering.
He gave the assurance that management of the Association would collaborate with the Liberty Mutual Health and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to ensure that pensioners access quality healthcare service.
The Head of Corporate Affairs and Stakeholders Relations of the Liberty Mutual Health, Ms Priscilla Peasah explained that Liberty Mutual Health is an accredited service provider and a recognised body among the eight companies under the Liberty Groups of Company.
She said the scheme which would cater for optical, prostrate, gynecological, ear sicknesses among others has put in place very effective mechanisms that would speed up the processes and help eliminate any fraud.
The Medical Director of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, Dr Peter Baffoe gave the assurance that the GHS would team up with the scheme to deliver efficient and quality health service to the members.
