Pensioners appeal for increase in pension

Akim Oda, Feb. 27, GNA – Members of the Birim South District Retired Teachers Association have appealed to the government to adjust their pensions to help mitigate their financial problems.

Speaking at a press conference held at Akim Oda, on Saturday, the secretary of the association, Mr Ebenezer Hushie, recalled that when salaries and wages of workers were increased last year, pensioners were left out. He said considering the high cost of living, especially with the recent increase in fuel prices, they would no longer be able to survive on their present meagre pension.

Mr Hushie said hitherto, when there was a wage increase, pensions were accordingly adjusted and appealed to the government to come to their aid to save them from further hardships. He argued that since they were neglected last year, the government should seriously consider an immediate increase in pensions.
