Peacekeeper Killed by Kurdish Immigrant?

NICOSIA [MENL] — United Nations troops in southern Lebanon have become the target of Kurdish migrants.

A member of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon was killed during a clash with Kurdish migrants at the UN position at Ras Naqura along the Israeli border. The soldier killed on Feb. 21 was identified as a member of the Ghana mission to UNIFIL.

UN officials said the peacekeeping force has launched an investigation. They did not elaborate.

A UN statement said tension with Kurdish migrants been reported since August 2001 when they were expelled from Israel. The 46 migrants, who illegally entered Israel, were transferred to the Lebanese side of Naqura.
