Accra, Feb 13, GNA- Mr. Inusah Fuseini, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tamale Central Constituency, has stressed the need to foster peace in the Tamale municipality to propel the development of the Constituency. He said as a cosmopolitan community with people from varied backgrounds in the midst of the volatile nature of the Northern Region, it was important to harmonise the various groups for unity and peaceful co-existence.
“The only sustaining legacy is to work towards peace within the metropolis and to give the children, the future leaders a reason to go to school, to remain in the classroom and go through their books and to pursue their dreams,” Mr Fuseini told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in an interview in Parliament House.
The MP, a lawyer, who is seeking a renewal of his mandate in Parliament in Election 2008, said his goal was to work together with his constituents to reduce development challenges, and “to get the people to understand that all my constituents became more responsible and useful citizens.”|
He mentioned other challenges of development in the Tamale metropolis as water, sanitation and education. On water, Mr Fuseini said the water pumping station was 20 km away from the town and the increase in population along the main pipeline, with increased connections had rather reduced the level of water supply.
Also, the closure of the reservoir had increased the plight of Tamale residents, the MP said, adding that, he was undertaking a project to extend water to Dohnayili community or St Charles area. Facilities for the disposal of garbage and waste from public toilets were insufficient and constituted other challenges. He said the facilities were an eyesore as the population that used them kept on increasing. The MP, who is about to enter two years in the Legislature expressed concern about poor infrastructure of a number of English/Arabic schools in the constituency. He attributed this situation to the structures being owned initially by private operators and announced that he was engaging in a programme to build the capacity of the human resource of the English/Arabic schools to give the children in the area quality education.
Mr Fuseini said he had within the time he had been in Parliament built a three-classroom block for the Farikiya English/Arabic School, another three-classroom block Wataniya English/Arabic School at Tamale Aboabo, adding that, work on a six-classroom block for the Salafiya English Arabic School at Gombihini was in progress. The MP said he had also rehabilitated a six-classroom block for the Presbyterian School Mr Fuseini said he had already adopted a non-partisan approach to his work and was confident that even NPP sympathisers would vote him back to office.
