Mr George Amoh, Director, Conflict Management and Resolution, Ghana Peace Council (GPC), has called on members of the various regional peace councils to be abreast of societal developments.
He said every region in the country has conflict situational maps, which the regional councils must acquaint themselves with.
Mr Amoh was speaking at a conflict management training workshop for regional Peace Council board members in Ho.
He said as the country readies itself for next year’s elections, it is important for the GPC to be prepared to ensure that the process is credible and impartial.
Rev Monsignor Anthony Kornu, Chairman of the Volta Region Peace Council, said the regional outfit had drawn up a plan of action based on the national body’s five year strategic plan.
He said the plan includes visits to the conflict zones including Nkonya, Alavanyo, Hohoe, Peki, Tsito, Nkwanta and Kpassa; and carry out peace education in selected schools.
Monsignor Kornu said the regional office is currently facing logistical challenges, which is hampering its duties including the non-availability of vehicles to facilitate its rounds.
Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Deputy Regional Minister, said Ghana’s Peace Council has contributed to national development and expressed joy that there is relative peace in the region.
He urged the Council to ensure that fairness, equity, neutrality and impartiality reflect in all their dealings.
Areas to be tackled during the two- day training include mediation, negotiations, conflict management and skills of engagement.
