Peace advocate calls for more attention for children, youth

Accra, May 6, GNA – A peace advocate, Mr Solomon Asare, on Wednesday called on government to redouble efforts to protect the welfare of children and youth. Mr Asare said in a statement issued in Accra that deplorable conditions at the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital and Senior Correctional Centre (Borstal Institute) in Accra had prompted him to make the call. He said during his visit to the two institutions, he observed that offices, wards and surroundings of the Children’s Hospital needed to be upgraded.

“The Borstal Institute lacks office equipment, accessories and other logistics. There is no terrain for physical education and recreational activities,” he added. Mr Asare said he had therefore decided to set the pace by scheduling a five-day “Walk for Fund ’09 event” in the Greater Accra Region to raise GH¢60,000.00 to support the two institutions. The “Walk for Fund ’09 event”, he said, would be from June 8 to 12 and called on all concerned parties to assist him with moral and financial support to make his mission a reality.
