Payola Fights at Odwira Festival(

One presenter/producer Papa Bills of Adom FM was attacked by a group of about 7 mascular young men during the recent Odwira festival held at Mampong. It was around 12:56 on sep 25 when the chaos started at the presenters corner where Adom Fm’s crew had mount a stage. It caught the attention of the hundreds of people gathered there. Information gathered was that Papa Bills had been paid an attractive sum of 4000GHC as payola.

The management /sympathizers of the new hip life group known as Town Boyz complained bitterly that papa Bills was not delivering (playing the songs on air) as the terms of the money demanded. According to them papa bills gave them a list of other presenters at various Fm stations expected to play their songs. But they realized they were not playing the songs. The management of the group town boyz contacted some of the presenters as why they were not playing the songs and it was then they realized that papa bills had just distributed the cds but no distribution of the payola money(4000GHC) followed suit as the tradition demands. It seems that the man is trying to keep it all to himself and destroy the dreams and aspirations of the musicians as well as investors. They said any attempt to make papa bills deliver on his promise had failed hence their presence here. According to them papa bills had chosen wrong people to rip off. One macho man in the group held papa bills up in the air and demanded the money to be payed back. The guys were very aggressive and dangerous looking that none of the security personnel presents or adom fms crew ventured to intervene. Not even on- lookers like me dared. The guys sped off after mishandling the poor presenter. The program didn’t survive after the incident and the program came to an early end.
