Patriot Club of Ghana celebrates 20th anniversary

The Patriot Club of Ghana (PCG), an off shoot of the Civil Defence Organisation (CDO), on Saturday celebrated its 20th Anniversary in Accra

Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, former First Lady, said the CDO was set up as a paramilitary institution to assist other state organisations in national emergencies such as invasion, bush fires, and floods.

She said members of the group received training in combat readiness, to be able to defend the nation against internal and external aggression, prevent economic sabotage, and engage in voluntary social and economic activities to promote community development.

The First Lady asked members of the PCG to be disciplined, and contribute to national development.

Mr. Daniel Bentil, Chairman of PCG, said the CDO helped to reduce armed robbery, land litigation and ensure security in the country.

He said the CDO as part of the celebration, has organised a communal labour in Accra and also organised a seminar to create awareness on the 31 December Revolution, and to promote peaceful elections in December.**
