Patients in Ho laud doctors for keeping faith with them

Ho, Oct. 11, GNA – Patients who thronged the Ho Municipal Hospital Tuesday morning lauded doctors at the facility for 93keeping faith” with them though they were expected to be on strike. “God bless these doctors for saving our lives. I am happy”, Madam Comfort Adjei, a 67-year-old retired nurse, told the Ghana News Agency with broad smiles as she walked towards the dispensary. She said she did not know that doctors were on a nationwide strike and was therefore happy that that was not the case at the Municipal Hospital.

Mr Emmanuel Avevor, a staff at the National Lottery Authority in Ho who brought his son to the hospital, said he was surprised to know that doctors at the Hospital were working and commended them for being around when patients needed them most. “Some of us cannot afford private hospitals and are very happy that our doctors are working,” he said.

Mr Avevor appealed to the government to work towards resolving the issue in time so other doctors would return to work to save lives. However, Dr. Gafatsi Normanyo, Medical Superintendent of the Ho Municipal Hospital, said doctors at the hospital were on full strike. Dr Normanyo, the Volta Regional Chairman of the Ghana Medical Association, said doctors at the Hospital were only attending to patients they had admitted before the strike action and those with “complicated cases”.

The situation was different at the Volta Regional Hospital where some patients and workers told the GNA that doctors there were on strike.
