Togbe Kotoku XI, Paramount Chief of Kpenoe Traditional Area, Thursday appealed to pastors to break the “emerging social classes” in the Church.
He said such classes, which are based on economic might, were “taking love” out of the Church, reducing it to mere social group.
Togbe Kotoku said this in a sermon at Jubilee Christian Centre to herald this year’s Valentine celebration.
He said the “love of God” did not discriminate and expressed worry over favouritism and prejudice among Christians.
“It is unfortunate that we pretend to love God, yet do not love our neighbours. We only give out to people we know can give back to us and leave out the less privileged.
“We simply do not think about the less privileged among us,” Togbe Kotoku said.
He said the situation accounted for absence of the power of God in the Church.
Togbe Kotoku also noted that many Christians had shun their responsibilities to extended relations due to self-centeredness and said such behaviours were ungodly.
He therefore asked pastors to return to the teaching of salvation and the love of God instead of materialism.
“We must let our people know that love is powerful. It covers all things and healing and miracles come from it,” Togbe Kotoku said.
