A 33-year-old self-styled pastor, Paul Ambek has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding Mr. David Nartey Addetey of GH¢45,000.
He is alleged to have collected the money to secure United States of America (US) and United Kingdom (UK) visas for Mr. Addetey.
The court, presided by Mr. C.A. Wilson remanded him in custody to reappear at a later date.
Paul was granted bail by an Accra circuit court but jumped bail until last week when he was spotted by Mr Addetey and was arrested.
Prosecuting, Inspector John Nyatuamey said Paul had introduced himself to Addetey as an agent of the United Nations and who had been given a contract to recruit prospective students from Africa to the UK to further their education and also work.
Inspector Nyatuamey said Paul managed to convince Addetey to give him GH¢195,000 to be used to subsidize Mr. Addetey’s trip to the US.
The prosecutor said the suspect later told Addetey that the US trip had been cancelled.
Inspector Nyatuamey said Paul, however, collected GH¢225,000 from Mr Addetey and gave him some documents, ostensibly from the UN, for a trip to the US.
The prosecutor said Paul later left his house and also switched off his mobile phone.
Mr. Addetey made a report to the police arid Paul was arrested.
