Pastor before tribunal for fraud

Accra (Greater Accra), 22 Jan. ’99 –

The Rev Awuku Mensah, 30, an evangelist attached to the Victory International Faith Ministry, Adenta, Accra, has appeared before an Accra circuit tribunal charged with fraud. He pleaded not guilty to defrauding Mr Carl Morris Amoafo, a businessman of 2,300 dollars and was granted two million cedis bail to reappear in two weeks. Police Inspector Emmanuel Dunyo told the tribunal that Mr Amoafo has a brother resident in Germany and planned to join him there. The prosecution said in August, last year, Mr Amoafo discussed the problem he was encountering in getting a visa for Germany with a friend and was introduced to the accused who promised to help. The accused latter collected 2,300 dollars for the visa but instead of a German visa, the accused gave him a visa for China which Mr Amoafo rejected and the case was reported to the police.
