Passengers Gunned Down By Highway Robbers

Two people were killed in an attack on a passenger bus by highwaymen between Jeduako and Bida, near Asante-Mampong, in the early hours of yesterday.

The robbers, numbering eight and armed with AK47 rifles, reportedly made away with money, mobile phones and the personal effects of the passengers.

Five other passengers, including two children aged about 10, were seriously injured and were rushed to Mampong hospital.

One of the dead was identified as Kyeame Baffuor Kobie, 42, the linguist of Birim. He and the other victim, yet to be identified, were killed instantly when the robbers opened fire on the passengers as they tried to run away.

Kyeame Kobie’s body was riddled with bullets, being the first person to try to get out of the bus when it was attacked.

Eye witnesses told the Times that about 27 bullet wounds were found on the body.

Mr. Augustine Gyenin, Mampong Divisional Police Commander, confirming the incident said a number of cartridges were collected from the crime scene by the police which will help in their investigations.
