Party agents urged to be vigilant

Nkawkaw, March 10, GNA – Mr Kwaku Konadu Kamkam, Kwahu South District Electoral Officer has urged various party agents who would be selected to supervise the voters’ registration exercise to be vigilant to avoid electoral offences.

He said this would enable the Electoral Commission to come out with a reliable and a credible voters’ register.

Mr Konadu Kamkam said electoral offences such as multiple registration, the non-removal of deceased persons names from the register as well as the registration of minors was the cause of the current bloated voters’ register.

Mr Kamkam was addressing the Nkawkaw Local Council of Churches to explain the voters’ registration exercise. He urged the representatives of the various churches to educate their congregation to register to put the government’s huge expenditure of 130 billion cedis into effective use to ensure the growth of the country’s democracy.

The District Electoral Officer advised the electorate not to prevent people from registering because they were aliens or minors but fill the challenge form.

He urged them to come back to take pictures for the Identity Cards and also visit the polling stations during the exhibition period to make sure their names appeared in the register.

Mr Kamkam warned that any group or individuals who would indulge in malpractices during the exercise would face the full rigorous of the law and called for their cooperation to ensure the success of the exercise.

He said similar educational exercises had been organized for the Second Cycle Schools, Holy Family Nursing Training Schools, Dressmakers Association of Ghana and the Staff of the Kwahu South District Assembly.
