Party agents advised to be vigilant on voting day

Sunyani (B/A) Dec 1, GNA- Agents representing political parties at the polling stations on the day of election have been urged to be vigilant to avoid impersonation and multiple voting in the December 7 election.

Such vigilance would also reduce complaints to be made during the exercise.

Mr Amadu Sulley, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) gave the advice at a Regional Inter Party Advisory Committee (RIPAC) held in Sunyani on Tuesday.

He emphasized the need to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.

He made it clear that the EC cherished transparent elections and asked the various parties to employ people of good standing to represent them.

Mr Sulley said party agents should not regard themselves as enemies.

On re-count of votes after the elections, he said the agents had the right to request for re-counting, adding, ” A request for double re-count is allowed but not done at the polling station but rather at the circulation centre”.

Chief Superintendent Thomas MacCarthy, Brong-Ahafo Regional Communications Officer of the Ghana Police called on all Ghanaians to unite irrespective of their political, social and religious affiliations to allow peace and stability to prevail, during and after the elections.

Representatives from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Democratic People’s Party (DPP) attended the function.
