Partisanship is killing Ghana – Speaker

Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho has bemoaned the growing level of partisanship in Ghana’s body politic, saying it is gradually “killing this country”.

Mr Adjaho said the situation has left few to be praised as representing interests across political divides.

During a visit to the residence of the late Paul Victor Obeng, Mr Adjaho said the singular tone of tributes pouring in – from different political parties – for the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission “clearly shows that our PV has served his country and has paid his dues.”

Accompanied by Majority Leader Dr Benjamin Kunbuor, First Deputy Speaker Ebo Barton-Oduro and some members of the Minority in Parliament, Mr Adjaho was at the late politician-cum-businessman’s residence to commiserate with his family.

Mr Adjaho recounted the role PV Obeng played in the establishment of the Fourth Republican Parliament.

“He exhibited how to sacrifice for this country in the face of the challenges at those formative years in the Fourth Republican Parliament,” he said.

“We can only wish and expect that we learn lessons from his life,” he stated. PV Obeng died on Saturday, May 17 after a sudden illness.

Tributes have poured in from personalities across the different political divides. They have all paid glowing tributes to the late senior presidential advisor.

“The partisanship of this country is killing this country and we need to learn from PV’s life,” Mr Adjaho admonished.
