‘Partisan’ IGP overlooks crimes by NDC – Sir John

A former general secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a private legal practitioner, Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, has lambasted the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over his [IGP’s] alleged partisan nature.

The outspoken politician alleges that the IGP overlooks crimes allegedly committed by members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He was speaking to Kwame Tutu host of Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM in connection with the clash between supporters of the ruling party and the NPP at Nana Akufo-Addo’s residence yesterday [Sunday].

The police are yet to release any preliminary investigative report on the clash officially. However, the two parties are at each other’s throat over the clash.

The NPP is blaming NDC supporters of instigating the attack while the NDC is also accusing the NPP presidential candidate’s security of firing warning shots at their supporters.

According to Sir John, the IGP is acting unprofessionally; taking sides with the ruling government and has failed to crack the whip on the issue when available evidence points to the fact that the NDC is to blame.

The former general secretary has therefore challenged the IGP to prove everyone wrong by exercising his powers without fear nor favour and deal ruthlessly with anyone no matter their political affiliation when they fall foul of the law including the NDC.

He condemned the attacks and stressed that the NPP would not be intimidated by the violence allegedly being perpetuated by the ruling government.

The NDC he said is bound to lose the 2016 general election, and because of that they are scheming and using violence to intimidate its opponent. He added, the electorates have made up their mind and come December 7, 2016, they will vote against the Mahama-led administration.
