Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), May 26, GNA – Police Chief Superintendent Charles Samuel Moses Brew Jr., Dormaa District Police Commander, has warned that any political party that flouted the Public Order Act 491 of 1994 would be dealt with severely.
He asked the parties to comply with the provision of the Act, which demanded that parties should inform the Police in advance the date, place and time of any event that they intended to organise to enable the Police to maintain peace and order.
The District Commander asked political parties to educate their members and supporters about the Act to ensure peace during their electioneering campaigns.
Chief Superintendent Brew Jr, who was addressing political parties representatives at a meeting at Dormaa-Ahenkro emphasized that the notification should be written and signed by the organisers of the parties.
Chief Superintendent Brew Jr. said it was the duty of the Police to maintain peace and order and asked the people to regard them as partners in development.
The Police Commander appealed to the public to co-operate with the Police to enable them to perform their functions effectively and efficiently.
The representatives were from the Convention People’s Party (CPP), New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Party (NDC). They expressed satisfaction with the meeting and urged the Police to be fair and firm in their work and avoid favouring some political parties.
