Parliamentary caucus visits Kumasi Central Market

Kumasi, June 1, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus led by Dr. Isaac Osei, Member of Parliament for Subin and accompanied by Mr. Kofi Opoku Manu, Ashanti Regional Minister and Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive on Monday inspected Kumasi Central Market that was gutted by fire last week. The fire, which occurred last Thursday evening, burnt over 400 stores and it took the Ghana National Fire Service many hours to put the fire under control.

Mr. Sarpong held a meeting with the MPs after the inspection and said a committee had been set up to investigate the cause of the fire and make recommendations to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). He said the rehabilitation of the market would depend on the outcome of the committee’s report and appealed to traders affected to exercise the restraint.
