Parliamentarians mourn colleague

Parliament adjourned sitting on Wednesday to attend the funeral of Alhaji Saani Iddi, Independent Member for Wulensi, who died on Monday, June 4.

Mr. Cletus Apul Avoka, the Majority Leader proposed the adjournment and Mr Ambrose Dery, the NPP member for Lawra-Nandom, seconded it to enable members to attend Alhaji Iddi’s burial at the Tema Community Nine cemetery.

Members had earlier observed a minute’s silence in memory of their departed colleague.

During Election 2008, Alhaji Iddi, 56, an independent candidate, won his seat by 10,174 votes. Mr. Thomas Donkor Ogajah of the New Patriotic Party, had 8,538 votes, Mr. Laliri George Maban of the National Democratic Congress, took 8,335 votes and Alhaji Musah Ziblisa Star Boy of the Convention People’s Party, got 196 votes.

In February 2009, President John Atta Mills made him the Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing but was dropped in a cabinet reshuffle in January 2010.

He left behind seven children.**
