Chairman for the Parliamentary Select Committee on roads and Member of Parliament for the Ayensuano constituency in the Eastern region, Samuel Ayeh-Paye has taken a swipe at the outspoken Abronye DC of the ruling New Patriotic Party for accusing parliamentarians of failing to do due diligence in approving the scrapped mandatory tow levy.
Abronye accused Members of Parliament under the Mahama led administration for taking bribes and passing the mandatory tow levy which according to him was to rob Ghanaians but speaking on Okay Fm Monday morning, Mr Ayeh-Paye said, majority of Ghanaians do not understand the policy hence an intensive education needed.
He said Ghanaians would have appreciated the levy if the procedure was well explained but he was optimistic, the levy would be laid before the house again with a full embrace of the citizens.
He stated that “When you are bathing and a madman takes your clothes away, you don’t run chasing him. Parliament won’t waste its time on Abronye and his cohorts. He doesn’t know how Parliament works, allow him to rant”.
He, however, warned persons accusing parliamentarians of bribe to desist from it or prove with evidence.
“Whoever says that doesn’t know how Parliament works. The law was passed in 2012. Parliament cannot stand against itself. Any subcommittee cannot go against a law passed by parliament except the executive and legislature. The leadership of the house knew the content of the levy report before it was made public. People talk anyhow. He knows nothing. if he has proof, CHRAJ, EOCO and the rest are opened, who or what is stopping him? we won’t waste our time on him” he chided.
