Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development OB Amoah has revealed that some workers at the Electoral Commission have expressed deep concerns about the attitude of the Chair of the Commission, Charlotte Osei.
According to him, some officials claim Mrs Osei unilaterally takes decisions for the workers and ensures that those decisions are enforced.
There is growing concern that Mrs Osei and two of her deputies, Amadu Sulley, (Deputy Chair, Operations) and Mrs Opoku Amankwaa (Deputy Chair in charge of Finance and Administration) are not on good terms.
Mrs. Osei has been accused of failing to consult the other commissioners in her decision making, a situation believed to be affecting the work of the EC.
Speaking on this matter in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday, June 27, Mr. Amoah, also Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, said he had also heard of the alleged strained relationship between Mrs Osei and her colleagues.
“Sometimes when you talk to the officials at the EC they tell you that all is not well. They tell us in private that the Chair does not consult them when taking decisions. There are a whole lot of issues, but the EC is an independent body and so you cannot just call them to ask them questions,” he said.
“I will also inform the Majority Leader in Parliament and if possible we will invite them to parliament and discuss the matter. If there is any problem we will see how we can deal with it so that it doesn’t affect their work. If it affects their work then the entire country will be in danger.”
