Parliament to hold ‘befitting’ farewell for Talensi MP

Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho has asked leadership of the House to arrange for Robert Nachinab Mosore to appear on the floor to be bidden farewell after he formally notified members on Tuesday, June 9 of his new occupation as Paramount Chief of Tongo in the Upper East Region.

He has, thus, abdicated the seat with a bye-election expected to be held by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

Proposing the official farewell, Member of Parliament for Bimbilla Constituency Dominic Nitiwul said the gesture of the New Patriotic Party’s legislator is unprecedented.

The Deputy Minority Leader said it could be the first time a sitting MP is leaving Parliament to become a chief.

Therefore, he deserves a “befitting” send-off, he demanded.

‘Who Jah bless, no one curse’

Majority Leader Alban Bagbin lent credence to Mr Nitiwul’s assertion, describing the former lawmaker with the expression: ‘Who Jah Bless, No Man Curse’.

In explaining that maxim, the Nadowli Kaleo MP said the MP-turned-chief’s middle name, Nachinab, means ‘Chief of the Youth’, therefore he was blessed from birth to be chief.

He said it is appropriate the House invites Mr Mosore to eulogise him.

He added that for the people and elders of Tongo to have nominated, selected and subsequently enskinned him as paramount chief means they have confidence in him.

Speaker Doe Adjaho, as a result, accepted the proposal and asked that an arrangement be made to get Mr Mosore for a formal farewell ceremony.

Mr Mosore replaced the late Tongo-Raana Sapaalug-Namalteng Boara Yenga Kolbil as the paramount chief and, by the constitution of the country, cannot engage in partisan politics.
