Parliament would next Tuesday debate the Provisional Estimates for 2004 of the sums required for expenditure out of the Consolidated Fund until the 2004 Annual Estimates are approved by the House.
Mr Felix Owusu-Adjapong, Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs announced this on Friday when he presented the Business Statement for the ninth week ending Thursday, December 18, 2003.
He said the House would also adopt the Report of the Committee on Mines and Energy on the Investment Agreement between Ghana and Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, Rank Mining Company Limited and Golden Ridge Resources Limited for the exploration, development and production of minerals in Ghana.
During the week, the Banking, the Public Procurement, Judiciary (Retention of Revenue), and Trade Marks bills would be taken through the various stages and passage. The House would rise sine die on Thursday, December 18, this year.
The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Peter Ala Adjetey informed the House that the Standing Orders Committee of Parliament has commenced a review of the Orders. Mr Adjetey, therefore, invited all members who have ideas or inputs to put them in the form of a memorandum for their views to be considered.
The Standing Orders of Parliament are set of rules that guide Parliament in exercising and upholding its powers, privileges and immunities.
Contents of the Standing orders include the election of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and oaths, privileges and immunities, duties of the Clerk, the marshal, summoning and dissolution of parliament, sittings and adjournment of the House and communication from and to the House.
Other features of the Standing Orders are order of business, questions to Ministers and other members, Statements, ceremonial speeches, laying and presentation of papers, Orders, Rules and Regulations, Motions and Amendments, Rules of Debate, and Order in the House.
Other sections are votes of censure and removal from office, voting in the House, Bills, financial procedure, parliamentary committees, establishment of Standing and Select Committees.
