Parliament reconvenes today

Parliament is expected to reconvene today, Tuesday, May 30, 2017, for the second meeting of the first session of the seventh parliament after rising for the Easter celebration.

The commencement of the meeting is at the instance of the Speaker, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye after the House went on a break for the Easter festivities. Among the major issues, this session will consider will be the bill that will create the Office of the Special Prosecutor to deal with various corruption cases.

Already some members of the minority NDC have registered their reservations about the creation of the special position.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament will also be vetting the newly appointed Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, who would be replacing Georgina Theodora Wood at the end of June.

New bills are also expected in the course of the session.
