Parliament reconvenes for emergency sitting

Parliament on Wednesday re-convened for an emergency meeting called by the Speaker, to consider some financial agreements and to approve some Committee Reports.

The House moved from the main Parliament Chamber to a Committee room at the Accra International Conference Centre, because of on-going renovation works and reconfiguration of the Chamber.

Among the financial agreements to be considered during the three-day emergency sitting, which runs from Wednesday October 1, to Friday October 3, are the capping of the Master facility Agreement between the Government of Ghana and the China Development Bank (CDB) loan of three billion dollars, to finance infrastructural development projects under the Ghana Shared Growth and Development Agenda at 1.5 billion dollars.

Others include, the Export Credit Facility Agreement between the government of Ghana and the Deutsche Bank S.A, for an amount of 140.5 million dollars for the design and construction of the Kasoa Interchange and Ancillary works, and a Term Facility Agreement between the Republic of Ghana and BNP Paribas Fortis S.A/N.V, for an amount of 170 million dollars for the construction of one new fly-over bridge on the ring road Central to Feo Eyeo in Accra, and additional construction works around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra among others.

The House would also approve the 13th Report of the Appointments Committee on the President’s nomination for ministerial appointment. Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Minister-designate for Trade and Industry is expected to be approved for the portfolio.

At the sitting, Dr Benjamin Kunbuor, immediate past Majority Leader and MP for Nandom handed over to Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Babgin, MP for Nadowli/Kaleo, who came back to assume the position after a stint in the Executive.
