Accra, Dec. 1, GNA -The Minority Leader in Parliament, Mr. Alban Bagbin, on Thursday paid a tribute to the late Mr. John Aitpillar, former Member of Parliament for Ellembelle in the Western Region who passed away on September 21 this year at the age of 81. Mr. Aitpillar was elected a member of Parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 1993.
Mr Bagbin described the late Mr Aitpillah as a “politician of a difference, who was very humble and respectful to all, irrespective of age, social or economic standing, and that he played his part as an educationist and a polities”.
“He had very simple manners and was extremely honest person who was always hammering on the unity of the country”. “He was very much concerned that as a nation, very good lessons ought to be learnt from the past and never to repeat the mistakes of the past.
Mr Bagbin said during his term as an MP he served on many committees including the committees of Public Accounts, Defence and Interior, Education and the Lands and Forestry.
“His rich experience reflected in his contributions, both on the floor of the House and at committee meetings”.
According to the Minority Leader, when age started telling on the late Mr Aitpillah he voluntarily withdrew from national politics after 1996 and entered politics at the district level in 1997 and eventually got elected as the Presiding Member of the Nzema East Assembly.
Mr. Kojo Armah, CPP, Evalue Gwira on his part, said the nation has lost a “witty politician who was a father and a friend and that he should not be mourned only in Nzema but throughout the nation.
